What Are the Health Benefits of CBD?

Clinical trials on cannabidiol have been underway for some years now and are a hot topic in medical and scientific circles. Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a relatively new phytocannabinoid found in 1940. It accounts for nearly 40% of the total plant's mass and is one of the safest and most effective natural treatments for intractable epilepsy. The question is: how will CBD benefit me?

The answer depends on a few factors, including your current health, the magnitude of your CBD consumption, and the type of CBD product you select. If you suffer from occasional or persistent seizures or epilepsy, you may be a good candidate for the effects of cannabidiol. People with CBD deficiency or people taking certain other drugs such as lithium (which can affect CBD levels) are not good candidates. In fact, people who are pregnant or breastfeeding should stay away from CBD oil supplements, CBD capsules or CBD oil products altogether. While there have been some small trials on CBD use during pregnancy, they must be carefully monitored by professionals to ensure safety. However, the American Academy of Pediatrics has stated that the limited evidence so far indicates CBD does not interfere with the production or function of the unborn child. The primary effect of cannabidiol, which is the main ingredient in CBD oil, is believed to be a neuroprotective effect and possible relief for the symptoms of chronic pain and anxiety. For many years, the CBD was used as an "on demand" medication for patients who suffered from nausea and chemotherapy-induced nausea and chemotherapy side effects. While it is not entirely clear why CBD appears to help with nausea in these two rare cases, CBD seems to effectively reduce nausea when administered intravenously. As of now, there are no published clinical trials examining CBD use during chemotherapy. One study performed at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign reported that cannabidiol may also reduce the risk of childhood cancer by reducing the frequency of childhood cancers that are treated as opposed to those that are not treated.

As more Pinnacle CBD products enter the market, researchers will continue to monitor CBD and its possible side effects and benefits. Some believe that CBD may have the same benefit of relieving nausea as smoked marijuana. If true, this could be a very important advancement in treating debilitating ailments such as seizures, nausea and inflammation without subjecting the patient to the harmful side effects of marijuana. This would be a huge advancement in the field of medical science.

It is currently not known whether CBD oil or CBD capsules have any health benefits beyond those listed above, although CBD proponents are quick to point out that the compounds in the cannabis plant have similar structural similarities to other compounds in nature. In addition, other compounds in the plant, including THCA, have been shown to have anti-cancer activity in laboratory animals and may hold the potential for significant human benefit. No current studies are examining CBD use during chemotherapy.
